Sunrise Home

Welcome back from the holidays! We are looking forward to a great new year and are excited to get working on some exciting projects. Here is one we recently finished.

The Sunrise home is a beautiful transitional contemporary style. This has the traditional color scheme that has worked for so many years as beautiful warm brown and beige hues, very much like a desert sunrise. However, this home has a few things that make it a little modern.

The kitchen has shaker style cabinets. The stain color is Ebony. It really contrasts well with the rest of the home and adds some drama to this space. This color is dark, however, it works well in this space because it is adjacent to the large open living room with lots of windows introducing lots of natural light into the space and keeping it from seeming too enclosing.

The kitchen also has very light Granite counter tops. We've used a granite called Santa Cecelia that is lighter than Venetian Gold, and a little creamier rather than amber colored.

For the main floor spaces include one bedroom/ office, a full bathroom, the master bedroom suite including full bathroom and large closet, laundry room, kitchen, dining, and living room.

The master bathroom is separated from the bathroom and closet with double doors that open inward. This is fun and makes for a more dramatic entry, as well as needed privacy. The ceilings in this bedroom room are vaulted as well.
The master bathroom has a full sized tub and walk in shower. Fully tiled with a tile called Polka Ambar  in 18x18" size. We have done a lot more large size tile in bathrooms and showers and entry's. The larger sized floor tiles help make the space seem larger because there are less grout lines to look at. Also, there is less grout lines to clean, which many people also enjoy.

We always like to add a little character to our bathrooms, so we will include a decorative glass or stone border to be used with the tile in our budgets. This particular one is a mixture of marble and glass.

The living room is all engineered hardwood. The hardwood we used in this home is one of our favorites, it is called Mercury Birch. The floor is 6.5" hardwood planks with a hand scraped finish.

For the fireplace area, we always include a beautifully finished mantle, this home also has large built in cabinets and bookshelves. Again, because the dark stain is in a light colored room with lots of windows and interior lighting it makes a statement, but does not overwhelm the space.

The lighting and fixtures selected throughout this home are brushed nickel for the most part, and the balusters for the stairs are oil rubbed bronze. The handrails are stained to match the hardwood and works well with the oil rubbed bronze balusters. Stainless steel appliances also help the home feel more modern.

In the lower level, there is a very large entertainment room with a built in kitchenette and additional fireplace. We finish every part of the room including under the stairs which is great for extra storage. The basement includes two bedrooms, one bathroom, and the entertainment room.

The basement also has two bedrooms and a bathroom that has a modern layout. It can be accessed (and locked) from two different rooms. This bathroom can be accessed from one of the bedrooms, and has an additional entrance near the entertainment room.
This home altogether is a beautiful transitional space with large open areas that are wonderful for anyone from a growing family to an empty nester. With vaulted ceilings, large spaces that are functional as well as aesthetic, we like to give our clients what they want in a custom home.

The Perry Hollow Home

Hello again, we'd like to showcase another beautifully designed home built by Summit Construction.
We were so happy to be able to work with the Smith family on this home, and it turned out so nice. This home is located near the mountains in Mapleton Utah, and has the main floor and basement entirely finished.

Starting in the entry, this home has a beautiful large entry with hardwood floors, and a foyer on the left as you enter. This room can be used as an office, or a formal room for company. The glass doors are a functional way to keep the room semi-private, it helps to break up the space and keep sound out from the rest of the home in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. Because these doors are glass, it will help the room feel larger even when the doors are closed because you can see through them it visually makes the space seem larger.

As you enter the main living room area, the hardwood floors spread through to the kitchen and dining room. The views in this room of the local mountains are exquisite. Large windows cover the south facing walls of this room allowing winter sun to enter and warm up the room, and summer light to come in but not heat up the home.

Fun tip: In Utah, this is a green building technique we can use to keep our homes from getting too hot in the summer, but utilizing the light while keeping our heat bills down in the winter- as long as the windows have good insulation. East and West facing windows will cause problems as the sun can enter in the home anytime of the year and make it too hot as the sun rises and sets.

Back to the home, this large living room would be excellent for a family who loves to entertain. There is ample space for extra seating, and the flooring is not sectioned off to limit placement of furniture if you want to be flexible and move things around to accommodate for large events.

If you'll notice the ceiling and accent wall, the homeowner decided to add interest by using a ship-lap type of painted wood installation. I just loved this because it adds character to such a large space, and it is simple but elegant. This was a simple installation for us to implement as well, it really adds to the appeal of the large room.

Along with the shiplap boards used in this application, the fireplace is a great accent. They chose to use a red brick with mortar as their fireplace surround with a large fireplace mantle.

Our cabinet company custom makes these mantles and installs the tile surround as well. The arched brick design is appealing in combination with the simplistic lines used in the mantle design, and surrounding shelving. The built in shelving is excellent as bookshelves, or displaying the family's fun personality with decor art and photography.

As you enter into the kitchen, the horizontal lines from the shiplap and shelving are echoed in the bright white subway tile used in the backsplash.

They chose to use a darker grout color with the white tile to break up the whitespace, accent the individual tiles, and it is also very functional in keeping it looking cleaner longer. The kitchen cabinets are white shaker style cabinets with some fun additions to make them different including the custom handles and glass paneling used.

Notice the blue island, I found that this is a trending color for 2014--all types of blue hues are very popular this year as seen in this year's Las Vegas World Market. I love how they were not afraid to use color in their new home, you will see a little later where they used other fun colors.

Granite countertops in kitchens are a must. We will always specify granite in our kitchens, you won't need to upgrade. This kitchen utilizes their counter space by also including a desk area. This is nice if you want to have quick access to a computer.

This built in nook was so perfect as you enter from the garage. It has cubbies for shoes, or totes and seating so you will have no problem taking off your shoes before entering further into the home. To the left from the garage entry is the laundry room. With summit construction we include a laundry room counter in our bids, but one nice thing they chose to implement in this home was a counter on both sides of the room to increase usable space in addition to their cabinets.

The master suite is another wonderful space. A bright gray paint color consistent with the rest of the walls we have seen so far keeps the room feeling even more bright and expansive. Aside from the large bedroom space, they have a nice walk in closet as well. The closet if I remember was probably eighty square feet with built in shelves and rods and space for a large mirror if they wanted.

I was so impressed by the master bathroom and what the smith's did to create a unique space that is incredibly beautiful. The homeowner is the author of a popular blog and she was able to get sponsorship from Daltile -a tile company- and received a lot of free tile. She wasn't sure where to use it, then decided to use it in the master bathroom on the walls.

This is a tiny geometric marble tile mosaic, the wall tile is a random square pattern, the flooring is a small hexagon pattern and in the master bathtub it is an oval pattern in the same type of marble. This tile is not easy to install and have it look good, our quality flooring company did a great job making sure it was up to par. Notice the fantastic chandelier used to add more drama to this luxury bathroom.

Glossy tiles were another repeated element in this home. These other bathrooms both use a large rectangular tile that has a modern appeal. The lower level bathroom has a polished white tile and the upper level bathroom has a tile that has a texture and pattern that imitates fabric textiles.

The layouts of both bathrooms are such that the sink and mirror space can be accessed while the bathroom or shower is in use. This layout decision is increasingly seen in floor plans because of the nice functionality this brings.

This flex room is excellent as a craft room, a dance studio, or exercising equipment room. This flooring looks like wood, but it is actually a Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring that installs like a laminate, but it is water resistant and durable. The paint color in this room seemed to have a blue tint to it, which seems natural with the complementing natural wood color of the floor.

There are six bedrooms in this home including the master bedroom, with three upstairs and three downstairs. some of them have a different paint color, like this colorful green, and pink. This whimsical lighting fixture they used in the lighter pink colored room.

Each of the bedrooms have large closets with built in shelves. Storage and organization is huge for a neat and functional home.
The doors and trim have simple clean lines. One way to add more character to a room in addition to the door character and trim could be as simple as adding crown molding.

The rest of the lower level is a large room with a fun theme. This wall sets the stage for a fun play area with a cute window under the staircase. Lighting suggests there is an end use in mind for this space, I'm sure it is being used by the smiths for something fun. On the opposite end is the second fireplace for the home.

There is a walkout basement for nice easy access for kids playing, or entertainment to move easily outside and inside. The daylight basements are always implemented in our homes which is great for extra lighting in the basement.

The home has been complete for several months now. We have landscaped it and it is beautiful. It is always a joy to be able to create homes as beautiful as these, especially when the people we get to build for are as enjoyable as this family was. We are constantly learning, as we build more custom homes, the unique things we can add to meet each clients needs.
